A unique opportunity to participate in the building and firing of an oil fired salt glaze kiln.

Participants will have the benefit of two tutors. The kiln building will be led by Joe Finch, an acknowledged expert who has built dozens of kilns and has just published a book on the subject - ''Kiln Construction - a brick by brick approach''

Deborah will supervise the preparation of pots for the kiln including applying slips and glazes, wadding up and kiln packing.

Those attending will need to bring 6 , medium sized pots, biscuit fired and made of stoneware clay or porcelain.

Joe's new book Kiln Construction serves as a guide to kiln building in a user-friendly way. It offers a thorough grounding in the basics and then examines three kilns in depth, brick by brick. These designs, showing gas, oil and wood-fired kilns, have been thoroughly tried and tested and are in regular use by well-known potters. Each of the kilns has diagrams and photos showing every step along the way.
